Issues raised by Community Councillors
The Neath and Tenant Canal Trust have contacted the Community Council to express their concern that NPT Council are proposing to demolish the Aberdulais aqueduct.
The Aqueduct is nearly 200 years old and a listed Ancient Monument, built to cross the River Neath joining the Neath canal to the Tennant canal. It is an iconic feature of the South Wales Canals and the third longest aqueduct in Wales, It was damaged in Storm Dennis and overtopped again this year. It is desperately in need of repair to prevent further damage and hopefully it will be restored in due course so that it may be used by boats. If nature is allowed to take its course it will be breached and be beyond repair.
Members also expressed their concern by this decision and will lobby NPT to reconsider.
